Adorable little duck favors!!

Monday, May 18th, 2009

When I picked the theme for the baby shower, I couldn’t help but think of Ernie on Sesame Street and his favorite bathtub song of ‘Rubber Duckie You’re the One.’ I wasn’t really inpress about this theme at first until I checked out all the cute little accessories and all the possibilities of having rubber duck favors. They are really so cute and it was a lot better than I thought it would be with all the online shopping help I got for ideas. There are a lot of adorable little duck favors and decorations to be found on the internet for baby showers and even toddler birthday parties.
I was holding the shower in my rec room in the basement so I had plenty of room to set up indivdual tables to seat four guests at each. I got a yellow ducky cake with a couple of layers, the bottom one of which said baby girl in red frosting, and then I put that next to plates, drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and other deserts; on a table on the other side of the room, I put all of the baby shower presents. There were posters of Donald and Daisy Duck, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and the rest of the Disney cast all over the place, and the Daisy Duck one was huge.
I got pink picture frames with tiny ducks on the edges to use a place card holders for each person’s spot at a table. There were duck favor candles at each table too and on the buffet table were paper plates, cups and napkins all with little baby ducks on them and even the punch bowl was unique. I bought a bathtub for an infant that was in the form of a duck at a local retail place, and I put the punch bowl inside of it. It looked pretty adorable. I found an ice cube tray that made little duck ice cubes, so I put yellow water in them and froze them. I took my duck idea to great extremes.
I got some of my suggestions from friends at the school I work at, but most of my ideas came from browsing the internet. That’s where I found such adorable little duck shower favors, like the darling little rubber duck favor bookmarks and candle holders. Everyone thought they were so cute and they made super party gifts for the games we played too.
I put some rubber duckies in a large, square-shaped, makeshift tub that I filled with water before anyone got to the shower yet. Every duck had a number on the under side of it, and every guest grabbed one duck out of the tub as they walked in. We gave out a prize for the person who had the winning number, which I pulled out of a hat a bit later during the shower. We had a lot of fun with the guess the baby picture game, too. The guests were told in advance to take a baby picture of theirs to the shower with them, and then we put them all on a board and put the board in the front of the room. Each guest got a chance to check out the board and see how many pictures they were able to match up with the faces of the other guests. The one with the most correct matches won a prize.
Everyone enjoyed themselves, and the new mommy picked up quite a pile of wonderul presents for her baby girl. Going on the net to help me put together this shower was an outstanding decision. I pulled off one heck of a baby shower, even though it seemed pretty far-fetched at first. Going with the whole duck genre worked out swimmingly.
